Yesterday, I went to a meeting with the delegates elected to General and Jurisdictional Conference. We were asked to give our name and share why we love The United Methodist Church. The last person gave the answer I remember most: The United Methodist Church has resiliency.

What refreshing words. In the midst of a disagreement we’ve had for some 30 years, it was nice to hear we have resiliency. Those words gave me hope. Hope that despite our disagreements, we will remember we love each other. That The UMC can make it through our disagreements intact.

I hope it’s something we remember as we go into this General Conference season. That delegates can look at each other and say “I love you. We’re going to get through this. Together.”
